The Pelican endorses incumbent Chip LaMarca for County Commission, District 4.

“LaMarca, a resident of Lighthouse Point and the only Republican on the non-partisan board, is a hard-working public official even when he is not on the campaign trail. He is visible and responsive to his constituents appearing at almost every occasion or event in the district.

He has exhibited the ability to work with a highly-diverse  population – the high income coastline, the working classes and those living alternative lifestyles. When criticized for marching in the Wilton Manors Stonewall parade by his more right- leaning supporters, LaMarca defended himself saying the celebrants were also his constituents.

In our opinion, he rightly takes the issue of beach erosion seriously and worked to get  beach restoration funds in the Convention and Visitors Bureau budget. He places erosion as one of the priorities of the coming years…”
