LIGHTHOUSE POINT – Candidate for Broward County Commission Chip LaMarca criticized the County Commission today for running a “confusing, embarrassing, and blurry meeting” when they passed ethics reform.
“This was truly an absolute circus,” LaMarca said. “This confusing, embarrassing, and blurry meeting shows exactly what the current commission is all about: confusing the citizens and attacking each other over frivolous issues. It was like I was watching eight children bicker over a game of verbal dodgeball.”
“I do not understand why the difference between right and wrong has to be debated for over six hours and multiple workshops with such disrespectful tones. All this meeting did was confuse and enrage the citizenry. Why so much red tape? This is exactly what is wrong with County government in Broward. Commissioners fighting with each other over what’s right and wrong in ethics and then patting themselves on the back for it is absolutely disgusting.”
LaMarca singled out his opponent, appointed Mayor Ken Keechl, for letting the meeting become confusing and unclear.
“Half the time, no one watching knew what in the world they were talking about. It’s Ken Keechl’s job as appointed county mayor to keep the meeting efficient and definitive. He merely watched as commissioners fought, had choice words for each other, and even criticized the concerned citizens in the audience. Even the commissioners were confused as to what issues some others were discussing. The lack of leadership by Keechl is embarrassing: commissioners crying, shouting at each other, calling each other liars – these people should be ashamed of themselves.”
“Enough is enough. This crowd of commissioners needs to be held accountable. There is no leadership, no responsibility, and no accountability on the Broward County Commission. I want the voters of District 4 to know there is an alternative in this race. If you’re as tired as I am, I ask that you consider a vote for LaMarca – and let’s get to work to really clean up this government.”
